It also feels more durable and has fewer components that require regular maintenance, is less expensive to own over its lifetime and charges more quickly than the 694.

This budget self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner does a great job on carpets with a low pile and hard floors. The combo brush can reach into corners and edges, and it automatically boosts suction when it senses carpet. It also does an excellent job of cleaning embedded dirt on carpets in the middle of the pile. The IQ’s small footprint for docks and the self-emptying feature are both nice features. If you want to change the floor level or set no-go areas, you’ll need to manually reset the map.

During our tests, we found that the IQ handled pet hair with ease. It was able to remove lots of debris on bare floors and a good amount on medium-pile rug. It was a little less efficient on shag carpets, where it struggled to reach dirt and dust that was embedded in the fibers. It was capable of maneuvering around the legs of chairs and tight spaces as well as the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. We did notice that it was a little slower on floors with no flooring however it soon recovered speed and performed better than other robots we tested.
The IQ is a better option over the iRobot Roomba 694 for most uses. It has a bigger dust bin and lasts longer on a charge, and does a better job of moving itself around obstacles. It comes with mopping tools that are able to remove sticky debris. On the other side the iRobot is more durable and has fewer components that require replacement or maintenance and incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance and can even create virtual no-go zones using its companion app. It can even restart a cleaning session from where it left off in case it is unable to recharge its battery prior to having completed the task.
